Psalm 23:1-6

The Lord is my Shepherd

The beginning of Psalm 23 speaks to our hearts – green pastures, quiet waters, right paths. A lot of us like those feelings. They give us comfort, security and peace. Believe it or not, a lot of these psalms speak to us as if we were sheep. Not sure if we should feel like it’s a compliment or an insult.

Although the metaphor is a bit out there, it totally makes sense. Sheep are prone to wandering, and so are we. Sheep need guidance. So do we. So how fitting that we humans can receive the security and confidence to know that the Lord of the Universe is our personal Shepherd. He guides me, provides for me, and protects me from my enemies.

Have you wandered off? Have you been prone to walk your own path? Sooner or later, it backfires but thanks be to God that He is our Shepherd and brings us back onto the path we’re meant to be on.

The Lord is my Shepherd.

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need. 2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. 3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. 4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. 5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. 6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.
