Psalm 13

It's hard to be patient. It's a fruit of the Spirit for a reason—it doesn't come naturally. Waiting might be one of the most frustrating parts of everyday life. We look for the quickest route on Google Maps, find the shortest line at the grocery store, and filter Amazon results by shipping time. We hate waiting.

When things are in our control (which is surprisingly little), we organize them to be as efficient and quick as possible. Frustration, even desperation, sets in when things that are outside of our control take longer than we expect.

Waiting on God is difficult. Because much of our life is out of our control, we are blessed to have a God who we can call on, but we are stressed because God’s timing rarely syncs with ours.

Are you waiting on God for something? Maybe it's a new job, a relationship to be repaired, a diagnosis, or a government document (good luck!).

What do we do when our timing is out of sync with God's?

In Psalm 13, David gets honest before the Lord and clings to what he knows to be true about God. The result? David's worry is turned into worship, and his problems are turned into praise.

Today, as you reflect on God's Word, will you allow your worry to be turned into worship?

How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?

How long will you hide your face from me?

How long must I wrestle with my thoughts

and day after day have sorrow in my heart?

How long will my enemy triumph over me?

Look on me and answer, Lordmy God.

Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,

and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”

and my foes will rejoice when I fall.

But I trust in your unfailing love;

my heart rejoices in your salvation.

I will sing the Lord’s praise,

for he has been good to me.
