Philippians 2:5-8
5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
6 Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to.
7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,
8 he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
Jesus demonstrated the ultimate example of humility by becoming human and choosing the path of a servant. He willingly set aside His divine privileges to live among us, experiencing the struggles, pain, and limitations of human life. Yet, in His humanity, He remained obedient to God's plan, which led Him to the cross where He took on our struggles, pain and sin. His obedience and sacrifice reveal the depth of His love for us, showing that true greatness in God's kingdom comes through humility and servanthood.
This kind of humility challenges us to consider our own attitudes. In a world that often promotes self-promotion and personal gain, Jesus' example calls us to take on the heart of a servant, putting the needs of others before our own. It’s not always easy, but it’s a way of living that brings us closer to the heart of God.
• How does reflecting on Jesus' humility affect the way you view your own relationships?
• What is one way in which you could reflect Christ’s humility in your own life this week?
Pray and ask for help to follow Christ's example of humility. Ask God to teach you to serve others through his love and strength.
