James 4:13-17
13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” 14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” 16 Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.
17 Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.
In today's devotional, we reflect on the brief nature of life as emphasized in the Book of James. Life is often unpredictable, and while we may set plans for the future, we are reminded that we do not hold the reins of certainty. Each moment is a gift that we can easily take for granted if we focus solely on our ambitions and dreams. Instead, we are called to acknowledge our limitations and recognize that the will of God must underscore our plans.
• What are some of the plans in your life that you have made without seeking God's guidance?
• How can you remind yourself of the fleeting nature of life during your daily routines?
• In what areas do you struggle to trust God's plan over your own?
• Pray for clarity in your future decision-making.
• Ask God to help you surrender your plans to His greater will.
