James 4
One of the hardest things in life is to get back on track. If you committed to a diet that you bent the rules on for a few days (or, be honest, a few months), it can be hard to find the emotional energy to get back into the groove.
If you fall a week behind on that Bible reading plan you committed to, the temptation is to give up, not catch up.
When it comes to our faith and life with Jesus, the same thing can happen. We can hit a rut and have a hard time finding our way back. We miss a week of church, and the next week is easier to miss. We can stop serving others, and re-engaging can be really hard. Or, maybe the most difficult thing, once you stop tithing or giving, recommitting to that pattern seems harder than climbing Mount Everest.
Whether you are in a spiritual rut or on a mountaintop, the same rule applies to our faith: Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. (James 4:8)
Today, as you pray and read James 4, don’t just go through the motions. Draw near to God. What does God reveal about Himself to you?
