Righteousness in Action
So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone. - James 2:24
When asked about famous pairings, what famous pairings come to mind? Macaroni and cheese? Peanut butter and jam? Romeo and Juliet? I’m sure several come to mind. In the Bible we also see some famous pairings, Adam and Eve, Jonah and the Whale, Alpha and Omega, Truth and Grace. These are just a few, but today, let’s take a look at “Faith and Good Deeds.” How does this pairing relate to our theme of “righteousness” this week?
Having righteousness through faith is just one part of God’s goodness in your life. Living out that righteousness is another part. It’s part of the Kingdom mission. The Name of Jesus is made known when one lives out their faith and the good deeds that come from that. However, good deeds without faith AND faith without good deeds tend to land very differently missing out on eternal impact. To be living in the fullness of what God has for you, having faith with good deeds is key.
As you read through this passage in the Book of James, pray for opportunities to live out your faith in action, making the Name of Jesus known.
