Isaiah 49
Before everyone had a phone in their pocket, we needed a quick way to write things down. What were you supposed to do if you didn’t have a pad of paper in your pocket? Answer: write on your hand!
Writing on your hand wasn’t only reserved for Jr. High students trying to cheat on a test. It was a quick reference point so that we made sure we didn’t forget.
It’s easy to forget things. We all do it. In fact, forgetfulness is just a part of being human. To forget something is one thing. To be the one who is forgotten is a whole other thing.
This past weekend, we looked at Psalm 13 and how King David cried out, “How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? (Psalm 13:1). You can sense the pain in David’s words. To feel like God has forgotten about you is one of the worst feelings in the world.
It’s easy to let our feelings dictate our life. Our emotions make great servants but terrible masters. Just because you feel forgotten by God doesn’t mean that you are.
Instead of letting feelings call the shots in your heart, let God’s Word be the final word.
Feeling forgotten? Be reminded of Isaiah 49:15-16:
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.”
