Ecclesiastes 8:1

In our journey through life, we are all leaders in some capacity. Those who are not leaders concentrate on how to bring their skills to bear on the task in front of them - the "how"; those who are leaders, however, concentrate on the wider perspective - the "why." That is why, as someone put it: "The person who knows how will usually have a job but that person will usually work for the one who knows why." The follower needs to know how; the leader needs to know why.

Ecclesiastes 8:1 states, “Who is like the wise? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man's wisdom makes his face shine, and the hardness of his face is changed."

This verse begins with a rhetorical question, emphasizing the uniqueness and value of wisdom. Solomon acknowledges the importance of wisdom and the ability to interpret and understand things correctly. He suggests that true wisdom sets a person apart and distinguishes them from others.

The second part of the verse focuses on the impact of wisdom on a person's countenance. Solomon states that a person's wisdom makes their face shine, while the hardness of their face is changed. This imagery suggests that wisdom brings about a positive transformation in a person's demeanour and appearance.

To fully grasp the meaning of this verse, it is essential to consider its cultural and historical context. In ancient Near Eastern societies, a person's countenance was believed to reflect their inner state and character.
