Ephesians 4:17-5:20
“Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God- truly righteous and holy.” Ephesians 4: 23,24 NLT
The book of Ephesians is filled with rich instructions of what our lives are to look like when we live a Spirit-filled life. It’s a life that is to be full of light, not darkness. When we have made Christ the Lord and leader of our lives, the Holy Spirit, who was promised by Jesus himself, comes to live in us to help lead and guide us. At first glance, this section can seem a little heavy, and you may be tempted to do a quick fly-by read, OR you may think about how hard it is to change your shortcomings. The good news is that the Spirit is the one that renews our thoughts and attitudes. We can’t in our own strength. That little word “let” is so powerful in this section - “Let the Spirit…”
As you read this section of scripture, ask God to help you take a personal inventory of where you need some renewal. Confess to Him and let Him do that needed renewal. We are, after all, human and still are works in progress, and by His grace, we’ll become more and more like Him.
Tip for Today: Bonus material for the weekend! We went through a significant amount of the book of Ephesians this week; however, there is MORE. Make a note to read sometime this Saturday or Sunday one of the more famous passages in Ephesians, “The Armour of God” Ephesians 6:10-18. As you read and reflect on this passage, reflect on the goodness of God, who gives us everything we need to live this life that He has called us to. “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.” Eph 1:3 NLT
